I think the secret to this is after you take a drink, you must squeeze the bite valve so it opens and allows the water to drain back down the straw. Otherwise, the water sits in the bite valve and if it is bumped or laid on its side, the water could drip out.
I take this to work every morning full of ice and water. I have dropped it from elbow-height onto the hard tile floor and it just bounced and didn't break at all.
The ONLY downfall is that if it's hot and humid, this bottle sweats a lot, just like any other water bottle would. But, there is a case available for it to keep it cool and it would absorb the sweat.
I also have the smaller size like this one to fit into my bike water bottle holder, and it's excellent. For my bike, I have the extension hose to replace the bite valve, so I don't have to take the bottle out of the holder, I just drink through the extension hose - makes it much easier! I sneak this smaller bottle into the movie theater in my purse and never worry about it leaking.
